First Day of School/ Color Me Scrappy Challenge #14

I am so behind on my scrapping and project life. I have every intention to catch up though. It has been a rough few weeks with Anurag. He has not been well and last night was his first asthma attack for this winter. I think it is because of him rolling on the carpet at our friends house. I told him so many times, he doesn't understand :( .He is wheezing. I hope he gets better soon. I hate it when he is not well and he says ' it hurts Amma'. So helpless!

Moving over to my layout! I have been wanting to scrap Anurag's first day of school pictures! I saw this T-Shirt at Target  which said ' Ready Set Go' and I knew it would be perfect for his first day. I love the bright orange shorts! He knows the signal so well. Red means stop, Yellow means slow down and Green means Go! He tells me this over and over again when we are driving. And hey if I don't slow down and choose to go instead ( I did that once) ..he promptly voiced his concern and told me ' You should have stopped, It was yellow. I saw the signal turn red. ' I felt horrible. Not doing that ever again!! He is so caring. Sid told him once that we don't talk and drive because it is not safe. He tells me everytime I pick up the phone to just call for a minute or two! He insists that I should stop talking. I hardly do it ever, just those quick, I am on the way or Where are you. But I listen to him :-) I feel so happy that he looks out for all of us!

This is what I came up with the challenge palette for this fortnight at Color Me Scrappy!  I had so much fun working with the challenge colors. It is totally me:) Bright and Happy!  I used SC Yearbook , AC shoreline and some things from my first SC kit. Yes you heard that right!! I am subbing to SC now! YAY! I wrote the date on the apple wood veneer.

The layout is based on this color palette. Check it out! Love it!

I used craft knife to distress and tear the edges and stitched on the paper with my sewing machine. I really had to stop myself from sewing more on this layout! It is a lot of fun and addictive! The abc card on the right is a silhouette store file. I added the thursday and friday flair. Those are his school days. The Yearbook wood veneers are awesome! I love them!

I picked up a pack of 50 wooden clothespins from Joann's. They were just a few dollars. I painted them with regular acrylic paint in Red, Yellow and Green and added a twine between them. Sort of like developing pictures in a dark room. The washi tape came with my first SC kit. I had trouble figuring out what to write with on the washi tape. After trying out a few pens, Sharpie worked with no problem.

I love the foam thickers by Amy Tangerine. I colored the white foam thickers with a yellow memento marker. Stamped the first day of school. It  is from  a set by Ali Edwards. I am loving all her stamps! They were on sale at Two Peas! Go get some before they run out! I picked up four sets I think! I am totally a fan of her stamps:-) I love them. They are perfect for project life and layouts! The cut the geo tag and the title on silhouette. I used pacifico font for the title. It is a free download from dafont.

I just wanted to show you the layers I created on this layout! The sewing adds a lot of movement. I let the loose threads hanging. Tearing added so much to the layout.

I got all mu supplies from Twopeasinabucket! I highly recommend that store! They always have the latest and the greatest in stock and at good prices!

World Card Making Day!! Ahoy Mate!!

Since it is World Card Making day and Anurag has been invited to a birthday party, I think it calls for a card! The theme of the party is pirates! So here is my card! The inside says 'Happy Birthday'. I cut the bubbles on Cameo and layered red card stock under the white bubble. Some red and black twine from the twinery and it was done!

I am entering this card at Paper Issues World Card Making Day Contest. Cassie is giving away four $20 gift certificates to her Etsy store! It is an awesome store and she always has a 20% code. Her store always has the new products in stock! Keeping fingers crossed!

I am also entering this card at Market Street Stamps Cream of the Crop contest. I have used their argyle background with Memeto Red Ink. They have the best background stamps!

Muthi Mae Duniya ( World in my First) CMS Challenge #13

When I saw the colors for Challenge #13, I loved them! I knew I would be using them for a beachy layout! This is what I came up with using the Challenge colors as inspiration.

Checkout the color combo this challenge is based on! I think it can be used for a fall layout as well or a black and white photograph would work too!

I had this photo shoot planned out. I wanted all of us to wear white and beige and do a photo shoot during our cape cod vacation! Cape Cod was so beautiful! Lovely beaches!White Sand! So relaxing and fun! A much needed vacation:) . Not surprising the best photo of the whole shoot was the most unplanned one. So cool that Sid caught this on Camera! I love it! Pure innocence! Feel of sand slipping through your fingers, trying to close your fist as tight as possible. Watching it with such innocence. Wish time would stop...

I had this title in my mind from the beginning of the layout. I was trying to get a good translation for it and do the title in english. I almost went with ' To see a world in a grain of sand' ( From a poem by William Blake). But then, Sid was like why don't you just do the title in hindi. I found the font Shusha and also a keyboard help file to go with it. It took me 2 hours to figure it out! I love the end result though! The title translates to 'the world in my fist'. I added that to the layout as well.  I don't think Anurag is going to be able to read hindi when he grows up. Maybe we will teach him, we will see!  I didn't glue the whole title down, a little glue and some staples and left it like that. It adds some dimension.

I added the Globe stamp and embossed it with white zing. I thought the camera looked empty with holes, so added the stars in the center.

I used 'Samarkan' font from dafont to do the english translation. It looks so pretty!! It is a very commonly used hinglish font:-) I am going sequin crazy! I picked up some more sequins in a bigger size. Its crazy they had such little sequins in it! I think I am going to pick up those 4 oz bags next time I go, in different sizes and shapes. I think it looks really cool on a layout. Just enough shine! 'You are my Sunshine' was a printable from the pop off the page class by SC. I added twine on the photo, just for a little color and kind of tying it all together.

I used Gold Shine spray by Heidi Swapp on the leaves. The leaves were also a cut file from the SC class. I yellow paper is handmade . It is from India. I love the vellum script paper from hobby lobby. I added a doily by wilton to make the layout softer. I added the woodgrain paper by Miss Caroline to go with the fence. The colors are so nice on the woodgrain.

I had absolute fun making this layout. The colors worked perfectly with my picture. I used a 6 by 8 photograph. Using a enlarged picture is so fun! I have entered this layout in Fall'n for Flair Contest at Paper Issues Blog and also in Layout Love Linky at Purplemailbox blog.
